Allyson MitchellOn View: September 11 - November 10The design fads and social revolutions of the 1970s are integral to Allyson Mitchell’s sculptural environments. She covers walls, ceilings, and floors with shag carpeting, colorful macramé, and hand-stitched, fun-fur wall hangings of voluptuous pin ups. While fluffy pink squirrels and nine-foot Lady Sasquatches contribute to the trippy atmosphere of her installations, Mitchell’s woodland creatures possess a claws-out, teeth-bearing—and not to mention hairy—sexuality that imparts an edgy politic to the overall feel-good vibe. – Sandra Firmin
