Allyson Mitchell

On View: September 11 - November 10

The design fads and social revolutions of the 1970s are integral to Allyson Mitchell’s sculptural environments. She covers walls, ceilings, and floors with shag carpeting, colorful macramé, and hand-stitched, fun-fur wall hangings of voluptuous pin ups. While fluffy pink squirrels and nine-foot Lady Sasquatches contribute to the trippy atmosphere of her installations, Mitchell’s woodland creatures possess a claws-out, teeth-bearing—and not to mention hairy—sexuality that imparts an edgy politic to the overall feel-good vibe. – Sandra Firmin
